Science Diet Low Ash Canned Food

I have a black lab/Springer Spaniel mix dog - I got her as a puppy ( rescued her from a house fire - she was not injured but family couldn't take her to the temporary apartment they moved to ) . She was 3 months old and I named her "Mollie". I fed her Purina Puppy food ( dry) with plenty of fresh water nearby - I fed her Mighty Dog wet food as a midday meal but she really preferred her Purina dry food. I bought her food at a supermarket and my vet had said the food was good for her regarding the nutritional value. ( She got steak and hamburgers occasionally -- when we took our eyes off of our dinner plates :-)

Mollie developed a mild kidney failure at age 10 and she has been on Science Diet low ash canned food which I buy at the vet - I also get Science Diet Dry dog food at the vet's office. The price is higher than Purina and I have to buy it at the vet or mail away for it - it's cheaper to buy at the vet's office.

One thing I might mention is that anyone having a female dog like mine will get her spayed to protect her and prevent unexpected pregnancies. Female dogs as large as my Mollie tend to gain a lot of weight within one year following spay. Check with your vet to ask about portion control and/or any type of diet . Most important is that the dog gets a LOT of daily exercise. If those things are done there can be reduction in weight or even prevention of weight gain after spay surgery.
