The Rescue Dogs page contains stories about dogs that were adopted from shelters and rescue organizations. 

Be prepared to be both delighted and moved when you read some of them!

We hope that the stories on this page encourage others to consider rescuing a dog of their own.

Here's a typical story:

I received my dog from Colorado Dachshund Rescue 2 years ago. She was rescued from a puppy mill where she was kept in a small cage and bred too young. When we got her, she was 3 years old and fearful of strangers, but we have made her part of the family. 

Now, she is very loving, and I wouldn't trade her for the world. She is strong and has made a wonderful companion for our 7 year old and 5 year old daughters. 

I would encourage anyone who loves animals to rescue them from shelters rather than go to a breeder. 

Colorado Dachshund Rescue was great in helping find homes for unfortunate Dachshunds that need some love.

Arizona:

Phoenix - Read about, Abby, a Terrier mix, who was rescued from the Humane Society in Phoenix. According to her owner, Abby has the family well trained!

California:

South Lake - A Great Dane Bull Mastiff rescue dog named Jack who came from the Animal Shelter in South Lake.

Florida:

Clearwater - Here's a contribution about a Pit Bull mix rescue dog that was adopted from the Humane Society Humane Society of Pinellas, located in Clearwater. The shelter offers a lot more than just dogs for adoption and if you live nearby you might want to check it out.

Lake Mary - Florida Pug rescue dog is now 12 years old.  The family got him when he was six months old from the Central Florida Pug Rescue group which is located in Lake Mary.

Sanford - Scottie is a Shepherd mix female that was was gotten through a website called Pet Rescue by Judy.

Georgia:

Jonesboro - He got a pet assisted therapy dog from the Clayton County Humane Society in Jonesboro.

Swainsboro - This person adopted a German Shepard mix, now about 2 years old, from the City of Swainsboro Animal Shelter. The adoption fee is low and the staff are helpful according to this first-hand report.

Louisiana:

Baton Rouge - This Bayou Country dog lover rescued a Lab mix puppy and says that it's true about how grateful rescued dogs are.

Michigan:

Iron Mountain - Beagle Border Collie rescue dog came from the Springlake Animal Shelter.

Mississippi:

Hattiesburg - Mississippi Pit Bull rescue dog, which was formerly used for fighting, is now a cherished part of the owner's family.

New York:

Port Washington - Getting Rocky the German Shepherd from the North Shore Animal League on Long Island.

Ohio:

Columbus - Rhodesian Ridgeback rescue dog from Ridgeback Rescue.

Oklahoma:

Oklahoma City - This Terrier mix rescue from the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter resulted in a satisfied owner.

Pennsylvania:

Philadelphia - Adopting this flat-coated Retriever from the Morris Animal Shelter in Philadelphia was one of the best choices she ever made, according to this happy owner. Philadelphia-area dog lovers might want to check it out.   

Tennessee:

Cleveland - The Cleveland Animal Shelter, which has a bonding room, had this Terrier mix that was adopted by a family and named Sophy.

Texas:

El Paso - Read about a Chihuahua mix, who was rescued by a kind soul from the Animal Rescue League, which is located in El Paso.

McKinney - Australian Shepherd rescue dog was gotten by the owner at an adopt-a-dog event.

Washington:

Tacoma - Purebred Parson Russell Terrier rescue dog now helps a disabled veteran who is trying to raise the funds to get her trained as a medical support dog.
