Dog With Corn Alergy Now Eats California Natural Chicken And Rice

I have a black 8 year old 12 lb male Pomeranian named Archie. We got his in the Summer of 2007 from a shelter. He was diagnosed with diabetes and was left at the shelter by the first owners. The food he was on was the canned Science Diet MD. He had really dry skin and was itching like crazy and his coat was dull and not looking good. I looked up online and found advice that he might be allergic to the corn that is almost the main ingredient in the dog food from Science Diet.

I also talked to my sister who has a dog and is on many dog blogs so she knew right away that he was allergic. She suggested the California Natural chicken and Rice by Innova. So I slowly changed his food to this brand.

After a week of being on it his itching stopped and his coat started to shine and grow in more. He was getting healthy again. This brand has no added grain, so less dogs will be allergic. They also use higher quality chicken in the food so it is not processed with chemical or as chicken meal. I love this brand of food and Archie does too he looks great with healthy hair and a healthy body weight.

I get the food from a local pet store, Ann-imals, York, ME. I like to go to this store since they have most of the natural food or treats and accessories for your pet. It is also just down the road so it is convenient and also I like to support local businesses. They have competitive prices and will try to match other store prices.

If you have a diabetic dog, the most important thing is to keep the blood glucose at a consistent level through out the day. You should ask the Vet what the levels should be - the lowest and the highest range so your dog will be steady and have less complications from the diabetes. I found that some rawhide chews make the blood glucose go high.

The treats that are the best are the ones that have no grain and a high percentage of real meats. Eagle Pack makes 90% meat treats called select holistic. ARchies favorite flavor is Salmon. They have several flavors: chicken, salmon, and duck. They have simple ingredients for less allergic reactions along with not raising the glucose in the blood.
